Could someone elaborate the difference between asp.net websites and html websites? Do they perform the same functions. I am just new to web designing. Resolved Question: Installing web server/PHP/SQL on development system?
I am working on setting up a development laptop for PHP. My goal is the well-used Server/PHP/SQL combination. The laptop I am trying to equip is running Windows 7 Home 64-bit. I have spent the last 9 hours trying to make something ...Anything... WORK. I will be putting any finished website pages on a regularly hosted server - so I'm not really concerned with the details of a development pc setup - as long as it works! I don't care whether it is a pre-packaged installation or manual installation. I don't even care if it's IIS or Apache. I tried first installing the Apache 2.2 web server. When I was done, I was able to open a browser and receive the "It Worked!" message from a successful install. Then I tried to add PHP 5 to the mix and read LOTS of instructional sites online. A.) At some point you typically need to rename "php.ini-development" to "php.ini" B.) then change some lines inside the file to configure it. C.) Then you are supposed to copy a file from the php .zip "install package" to your windows directory. I think these are old instructions that do not apply to the current version of PHP 5 and Windows 7. So I got sick of trying with Apache and tried the Windows IIS7 approach. First, I used the Microsoft Web Platform Installer 2.0 which is supposed to be "Automatic". I added the PHP option during the install, but none of my test .php pages will parse correctly when opened with a browser. They either arrive up showing the source php code or they show nothing at every. Then I tried the xampp installer - which is outdated - but supposedly still works. = "http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html" No luck with that. Then I tried the pre-packaged installer at SorceForge.net = "http://sourceforge.net/projects/phptriad/files/". No luck with that either. I imagine I have cluttered the system up with so many different approaches. Maybe they are counter-acting each other. 1.) If there are files that need to be cleaned/uninstalled before putting together a Server/PHP/SQL setup - which files are they? I will clean/uninstall them. 2.) This laptop started off clean. I'd like to receive it back to that point and start off on the correct foot. The directions just need to be CLEAR and UP TO DATE WITH WINDOWS 7. I'm not picky but it has to work. I am an intermediate computer user. Thank you much

I'm doing a term paper and this is the first time i've arrive here looking for answers. Anyways, it is for website development and the website I chose for my paper is a game website. Now usually, websites have a space for a page explaining their purpose for creating their site, but for game websites, this doesn't show (by the way, this is the usual console game website im talking about, it has stuff like characters in it, downloads for wallpapers and stuff, the mechanics and content, etc). Voting Question: Should I go for the on-site interview?
I found a web development job posting on craigslist.org and submit my resume. A guy called me up asked me to drop by for an on-site interview. I asked him the company name, but he said they don't have a company name. And he wouldn't give me the website of the organization or projects they have done online. He just told me the company address, and I would find out more detail of the company when I receive there. Is it safe that I go to that company for the interview? Would I got robbed or kidnapped? Voting Question: What do people do after college?
I didn't receive an internship while I was in school, and I don't have a lot of work experience. Each time I search for a development studies grad schools, I only look schools outside California and I am not sure I have what it takes to move so far away from home. I just found out that grad schools look at work experience and my GPA isn't that great. So I might never receive into a grad school. Even though I now have a college degree, I have not been able to use it. I am painfully aware that my life is passing me by, but I don't how to move forward. I looked at the peace corps website, but I don't think it's right for me. What should I do?

I noticed on this website/ map ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:UN_Human_Development_Report_2009.PNG ) and also the Wikipedia article on the UK ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK ) that the UK has a relatively lower HDI than European countries such as France and the Netherlands. Why is this? I've always thought that the UK was one of the highest ranking HDI countries in the world.

Voting Question: How much should I charge for a website?
I have been making websites for a while and have recently actually started a business. I was to arrive up with a good pricing system. I want it to be "cheap" compared to other businesses. I do graphic design, coding (html, php, css, javascript, etc.), and every the stuff. I think i know what I am doing but I just don't know what a good pricing system would be. What do you think? System I came up with: Graphic Design, Template Development, Homepage - $300 Pages 2-10 - $50/each After 10th page - $75/hour Is that any good? I currently have a client (a speedway) they want 9 pages including homepage. They also possibly want a contact form, newsletter, CMS (Content Management System) and I plan to charge more for those obviously.

Resolved Question: Halo is better than Half Life don't you agree?
Now, the Half Life 2 and Portal fans will probably hate me for this, but this is just my opinion. Since opinions = facts on this website, that means I'll be alright. When I play a video game, I want the storylines to be stolen from movies or better games. I also want the plot to be very simple, I don't like complex plots, I'm not playing on a PC! The thing about playing as Master Chief is he is soo chilly. What an innovative design! Take a marine, but give him space armor. Wow, Bungie really is the greatest video game company, pure genius. Now, for Gordan Freeman? Possibly the worst character design ever. Why would you make a character that never talks, and you have to act out the cutscenes? Why can't you skip the cutscenes? I don't want to put myself into the gaming experience, because that takes too much thought process. I can look why PC users like Alex Viance, because she is a character that the playa gets attached to, but I don't like character development in my games. That's why Cortana and Master Chief are a much better pair! Plus, Half Life doesn't have recharging health, so my health doesn't arrive back when I'm hiding behind a wall, so it makes the game much harder! And no Xbox Live? Xbox Live is a wonderful community, with a lot of caring people on it! You can ask them for advice on sexuality, family life, friendships, and gaming knowledge. Valve is also a worse company than Bungie, because they are on the PC, so there! I give Halo a 8/10 and Half Life a 6.5/10 (because you can mod your maps, and make the game like Halo with the Gary's Mod!)

Resolved Question: UCAS points help, convert them to grades?
I'm in my first year os sixth form college and I've decided what I want to study at university. I want to study 'Global Development & Peace Studies' but I don't really understand the UCAS point system. At the moment I'm studying 4 A Levels; Sociology, Psychology, English Language&Literature, and French. I plan to drop French after my AS exam, so I'll only receive the full A Level in my remaining 3 subjects. I'm also doing a full A Level in General Studies which is compulsory at my sixth form. The course I want to study says I have to obtain 220 UCAS tariff points, and that 160 of these must be obtained from at least 2 GCE A Levels or equivalent. It also says that no more than 30 points are counted for Key Skills. Could you give me the UCAS points in terms of grades and which grades I need to receive? Open Question: How to negotiate with a graphic artist / website developer as a middleman?
I have a consultancy business that may offer website development to some clients. I just asked a graphic artist / website developer about his thoughts about him helping me to help my clients who need a website. To quote him in his response, he has asked for the "scale and budget allocation". What does he mean? Does he mean scope and the percentage that he will receive? I must admit, I'm not too au fait on the costing procedures that ideally applies in our nice of proposed relationship. What is the best practice? Are my thoughts sound / unsound? I was thinking that, depending only on the specific project skills that I lack, I would tell him each job's requirements and seek his middleman fee. Voting Question: Where do I put Section 174 deduction on a 1065 form?
I hired a contractor to program some advanced features on my website. I am trying to claim deduction based on Section 174 on the 1065 Form, but I am not sure which box to put it in. Also, do I have to amortize this or can I deduct every the cost? My understanding is that I should be able to deduct every this development cost. The website is the main business of the company.
