Resolved Question: Fast growing company with a marketing assistant job available - but sounds like an executive assistant?

Hi there- So I am pursuing my MBA with a concentration in Marketing. I have a Masters in Education and no background in Marketing or Business (except for some volunteer exploratory work I have done running my possess temporary non-profit). So while I am completing the MBA - I am looking for something where I can learn about Marketing, receive my hands into it (receive dirty while learning basically), and better yet, have a career in that company. I went on an interview yesterday that I almost felt first unqualified for based on its description (look below: I know nothing about marketing analysis or IT) but they called me in for an interview anyways. tiny company - growing quick - tiny numbers as far as staff for right now. But it is clear they will receive BIG. They emailed me for a second interview right after I left - to arrive in today. Before I proceed forward, I want to be prepared. Thing is that when she described the marketing assistant (which is a new role there), I heard things such as: - Checking the CEO's flights - Managing the office - Making sure the printer doesn't run out of ink - Just making sure the office isn't in "limbo" with some things thrown in like: - Maybe contribute some ideas to the website - Maybe contribute some ideas to our promotional material - Proofread marketing analysis, website, and have strong grammar skills - And randomly asked if I had good math skills so I don't know where that will be used I look the opportunity certainly to grow with a growing company but I am concerned that I am playing a exec. asst role to the CEO for now. I don't want to receive stuck there. Basically I am saying that I don't want a Marketing Director job to arrive up down the road and they hire someone else. That is my goal or even MORE than that. I know the role is new so there are no definitive duties that she can list. It is clear I need to work from the bottom up doing a little administrative work but I want to make sure this supports my career. She didn't really stress assisting the Marketing Manager as much as assisting the CEO. Is this still a good start for someone in Marketing or a company that has just made up a bogus title? This is her description she originally sent me: "This position is brand new. I would say 50% is administrative support to the CEO, CFO and Controller, and the other 50% is working on different types of projects such as marketing (website, brand development, etc), proofreading marketing analysis, IT support and etc… We are looking for someone who is bright, has strong math, computer and English skills. Being that our plans are to grow this company, we need to receive the right person in place who can handle a lot of responsibility and grow with us."

Voting Question: When will Blizzard show more about Diablo III?

The official website has been up for about two months now and no new developments have surfaced. I know the designers said they have a long way to go, but something to keep the fans excited would be nice. What do you think the reason is? I wouldn't put it past them to keep it a secret for a while again. I would like to think that things would start rolling out soon, but people have been spreading rumors about this game for years now and they finally made it public only months ago. Resolved Question: How to set up a Cisco Pix 501 on a home DSL network?

I have a tiny web development business which is run from my home; and I needed a good way of allowing access to my network via VPN when I was out on the road, or for letting certain other people access some of the files they need. So I bought a Pix 501. Its currently sat idle because I can't receive it to work properly. The default configuration is supposed to be sufficient to receive started, but it doesn't work for me. We can run the VPN wizard and receive that up and running fine, but the default rules mean I can't use my facilites properly from INSIDE the network. By default - I can receive email in outlook, but I can't send it. Running a broadband test on speedtest.net shows a download speed, but no upload. On iGoogle, some of the gadgets (presumably those requiring to send info out) aren't working. Naturally, I can't work without email or upload - I'm sure its just setting up rules but i'm at a complete loss. I need your help! I'm using a BT Voyager 2100 router which assigns an IP to the Pix, and i've put that IP address into the router DMZ so every traffic should be passed onto the Pix. Behind the firewall i've got a NAS, 2 PCs and a network printer, they every communicate with each other just fine. Please help - or at least point me to a good website that can, i'm a software developer, not a network admin!!!

Voting Question: Flash/Actionscript Programming Advice needed..

Hi, I'm a self-learner and I've spent the past year teaching myself the in's and out's of website development. I started with html and moved through just about every the different aspects involved with designing websites. I really like flash and have a good understanding of the program, as well as how to implement some Actionscript. My question is directed to those of you who are Flash programmers. I want to try to receive my foot in the door with a company that's looking for flash developers and Actionscript programmer's. I'm coming across plenty of job listings, but I'm not sure where I would place my skill set and If I have enough experience to realistically compete for the jobs. If I'm capable of designing a functional website with your basic navigation, sound, moving graphics.. etc. I'm able to use the Tween and Transition Classes.. and I can use some xml and a little PHP for email purposes. At what skill level would I be considered? If I wanted to make the jump to the next level, what do I need to learn? Any advice from some experienced Flash developers would be greatly appreciated.. Resolved Question: How do I view a PHP file using FTP Surfer?

I am not experienced with web development, but I'm trying to learn. I've downloaded FTP Surfer so I can upload files to my website. I've figured out how to login to my FTP server and I can look every the files, but I am unable to open the PHP files. I've read that I can open them with notepad, but how do I do that? Open Question: What happens if I put a sign up without planning permission?

I recently bought a new build property and am having a lot of problems with it. The builders are refusing to fix several of the problems. I've put together a website detailing the problems I've had and was planning on putting up a 2m x 1m banner advertising the site up at the corner of our property which also happens to be at the entrance to the development. I've checked with the local council and they have told me I need planning permission to put the banner up and it would cost £145 to apply which is more money than I have spare right now. I've looked into the regulations and they say if a sign is put up the council can serve an enforcement notice instructing me to remove it which must be complied to within 21 days. Can anyone tell me if I did put it up would an enforcement notice be the worst I could expect or am I likely to be fined? Having the sign up for a couple of weeks is better than nothing. Thanks

Voting Question: How would I develop a username password system to store a student club's information?

I want to develop a log on system for the members of my community service club. I want to add some simple features where the users can input events they have volunteered at and the number of hours etc. This would be done through some sort of form. I'm a pretty experienced programmer although I do not have a lot of experience in web development. I am willing to learn anything. The problem is that my schools website has some constraints. The web server is an apache web sever. It has no php or mysql support. I guess my question is what are my options for this type of system if there is no database support on my web server?

Resolved Question: How do I set up MySql, PHP, ISS with testing server on Windows Vista using Dreamweaver?

Using Dreamweaver, I am trying to set up a database in my website. I am having a great deal of difficulty as I am only a novice. I have tried to follow every the instructions in the php install, but I just can't connect. How exactly do I set up the site (ie, when you edit site details, what do I key in on the local, remote and testing pages)? What do I key in for the HTTP address? I do not have one yet. What should I key in to Remote Info: Access/Remote folder? What should I key in on the testing server page: Server Model/Access/Testing Server Folder? I have copied the php.ini file to my windows directory - is there anything else I should do? I unzipped the file to C:\\PHP. I have installed IIS as per the instructions in Windows Help - (In the list of Windows features, click the plus sign (+) next to Internet Information Services, click the plus sign (+) next to World Wide Web Services, click the plus sign (+) next to Application Development Features, select the dynamic content features you want to install, and then click OK). Resolved Question: help with website development

I run a website for a local bowling assoc group. The website is basic XHTML and CSS nothing fancy. My skills aren't that advanced. Something the group would like to do is create a part of the website that allows bowling leagues to go in and input weekly high scores and then display them. I can create a Form page using XHTML, but it seems to me like this would take the use of a database to make it work, which I have never done and do not know where to start. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this? I use a web hosting service for publication.

Resolved Question: Does the Sony Vaio VGN-AR630E come with Bluetooth?

I purchase a power-horse of a laptop last year for my web development and graphic design business. It is a Sony Vaio VGN-AR630E and the product information on Sony's website says that some models may not arrive with Bluetooth capabilities. I spent over $2K for this notebook and it comes with everything but the kitchen sink (even has Blueray and a built-in Skype motion eye cam) so I figure it would automatically arrive with Bluetooth technology. 1) How do I find out if my laptop does or does not have Bluetooth capabilities? 2) If it does have it - how do I turn it on when using Windows Vista? 3) If it does not have it, how do I upgrade it to receive Bluetooth capabilities to work with my mobile devices?

In my tardy teens I married, had son and 18 months later had daughter and my job and life has been completely dedicated to them and I am wondering now that my kids are getting older and entering their teens, and wanting to receive a job how would I explain in "professional" terms that I have been out of the work force for as long as I have been . I would like to start developing basic websites for tiny local businesses that still do not have one. I have great marketing and sales skills and every I need is the website development skills. I am just looking to do this on a part time (second income) level to start out. I have begun learning from books and online courses today and I feel like I have already accomplished alot.
