Voting Question: How do I know if my college credits will transfer over?
I took classes at DeVry University for over a year, however I switched my major three times because I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was going to got to community college then right before graduation a lady from the school came in and had us to an assessment so it was really the only college I had heard of, so I chose it instead of community college. I hated it. My major went from Computer systems, to gaming, to business. And once I actually got into the classes of computer or gaming or business, I didn't like any of the majors and lost interest so I either withdrew or got F's. So I stopped going to keep financial aid and loans. Then later in the fall I tried to go to community college and everyone had already registerd, so I couldn't receive any classes except waitlist for one theater class. I didn't even know I had the class until this month when I got a notice saying my gpa was 0.0 for not attending. Not the smartest choice now that I know what I want to go back to college for. Which is why I'm here. I'm trying to apply to CSULA and CSULB, and I have to transfer credits from my previous colleges. I want to go for a Bachelor in Science for Biology. And I sent an email to CSULA with a copy of my transcripts I had received from DeVry, an un-official copy. And the lady in admissions said she wouldn't even look at it until I applied and had an official copy. Most of the classes I took at DeVry were Logic and Design, Game Development, Computer Applications for Business, Intro to Business, Composition, Econ, Financial Accounting, Motivation and Leadership, Data Analysis, Marketing, and tiny Business Mgmt. Now for a Biology degree I don't think I would need very many of these. So I was just going to apply as a freshman and not transfer until I read you can't do that. And with some of my F's and W's I'm afraid that it will make my gpa lower than transfer requirements allow. In high school, I graduated with a 3.2gpa, I could have had that in college but with the majors they had available I just had no interest in continuing that degree. And at community college I didn't even know I was in that class. So I guess my question is there a way I can look online to look if these credits will transfer over? Like if I look at classes offered, or a website that can determine if they will. Because the person I was emailing in admissions, just snubbed me and really didn't help me at every. Resolved Question: I have no idea if there's school today or not?
They said it would be out for monday and tuesday. I went on their website and confirmed that there is no school on those days. But there's a note that says "January 23 and 24 may be made a school day for every students. look "Calendar Notes" regarding Inclement Weather" How can they do that if they already told me that there's no school?? I just went on the website by chance, so what should I do? I slept in and if there was school today, it would have started an hour ago. Oh, and I checked the notes and it still said "23-24 Schools closed for students. Professional Development day/Workday for elementary and middle school." Voting Question: Web Developers! What should I charge?
I'm a web developer with a moderate skill level, persistently learning and dealing with multiple management systems. I'm in college studying Management Information Systems (business technologies). I've worked as an assistant for several tiny web presence companies, and I'm sort of starting my possess freelance business. I'm wondering what I should charge for my services. Here's mostly what I'll be doing: Design or Redesign of Website - I figured I'd charge a project cost for this, between $150-$450 depending on the depth of the project. Hosting & Maintenence - This would cover the annual DNS and server space fees, do I charge markup? Updates & Content Management - Basically, my hourly "edits and upkeep" fee. I've heard I should start as low as $25, but I know most established developers charge around $75-$80. Granted, I'm still learning and not as proficient as them yet, but should I really lowball it that much? Logo Design - If a client needs a logo developed, or have an existing logo they need vectored, etc. I figured again, billing based on project depth. Roughly around $75-100/hr. Graphics - If the client uses a lot of images that need to be resized, optimized, edited, or needs frequent promotional images made. Estimated $75/hr? SEO - Social Media Marketing - I have no idea what to charge for these... I can install and configure MySQL Databases, CMS systems, shopping carts, I can customize Shopify sites/templates, run mailing lists, basic marketing and business consulting.. I can do a lot of stuff, and what I can't, I can learn. Let me know what you guys think! Oh, and if anyone has links to some good contract, disclosure, etc etc type legal boilerplates for web development, that'd be great... Resolved Question: Is there a simple tutorial for developing Android Apps using NetBeans?
I decided that I wanted to learn to develop Android apps. I've had hell every day trying to install the right programs, and every of the SDKs. Now I can't find a simple tutorial. I installed NetBeans, but I haven't found a straightforward tutorial on how to develop android apps using it, let alone attach every of the necessary tools to develop and test an app. The Android Developer's website only has instructions using the Eclipse IDE(I didn't use Eclipse because of how frustrating the installation process was). I have installed nbandroid as instructed on the netbeans site, but it seems like I was left hung to dry after that. Is there a simple, one cease web site for me to learn Java and Android development without having to use tutorials from 50 different sites?

Voting Question: Website Development : Rebuild, Complications?

Resolved Question: Ratio Comparison Problems?
Hi, just a few questions. Re-asked for lack of answers. This is a question from a practitioners' standpoint, not a theorists' (joeyv). 1. Market Adaptation: US --> Foreign markets The Gurus' (Buffett, Lynch, Graham, etc) methodologies were designed specifically for US stocks. How do i adapt the ratios and criteria for foreign markets that have traded at historically different ratios from the S&P, DJI etc? 2. Reference Period: How do i tell if something is historically "cheap"? e.g. XYZ has historically traded at far higher PE ratios. Comparing to historical P/E, XYZ is a BUY, but when looking at it in light of it's strategic prospects, its quite bad with the possibility the new P/E might be here to stay or receive worse. :| 3. No realistic peers to compare with: ---> No accurate industry comparisons When comparing ratios, many of the firms have no realistic peers with similar revenue compositions, or comparable geographies. e.g. a Singaporean newspaper firm with a very diverse revenue composition has no realistic peers because of the unique situation (media is essentially state-controlled), revenue composition (firm does media, property development, website management and a bunch of other things). Resolved Question: Found out a brand I use tests on animals?
I use Aveeno products religiously and I just found out the test on animals. I read this on the PETA website. I am a vegetarian and this is completely against everything I believe. I refuse to continue using these products. I checked on every the bottles and also on their website and no where does it inform you that they test on animals. This is not right, am i wrong? Can i complain and receive reimbursed? I do not want my money going towards a conglomerate that supports everything I am against. If they do not advertise it how should I have known. I have looked into it several times before purchasing and I just triple checked and nowhere on the site does it say anything! They are, however, a branch of Johnson & Johnson. On their website they do say that they use occasional animal testing. I am so mad... :( @quizzard - they are required to inform the consumer. Also the list of companies that don't use animals for testing is just as long as the list that does... That's my point though.. Resolved Question: What resources/personnel are needed to develop a social networking/crowdsourcing website?
If someone has a new idea for a website with a social networking/crowd-sourcing flavor, what limitations should be considered before pursuing its initial development? For example, you anticipate, say, 100,000 new users, each of whom contributes an average of half page of text content (that is sortable/retrievable/displayable by the site). And you want to provide some basic database/analytics based on this content, what resources would that entail? Is this something that you can receive off the ground with existing, off-the-shelf, relatively cheap (or opensource) software? If so, where could I find such resources? Open Question: i need help. I don`t know what to do and I feel like no one whats to help me?
I`m almost 33. I live with my mom which I hate. (no my mom, just living with her) I live in a Island where My bachelor degree is useless sense everyone can learn it from google, believe it or not. That`s what my college professors did when they tutor me. I can`t find a Job, I don`t have a car and I barely earn $300 a month from freelancing. I have so many Ideas but most of them are ether in need of programming skills, money or a car. I have a website, is my sole passion but I need the car to actually make it work plus extra cash for equipment. I have no friends and God know I try asking my family. My credit.... let just say that my 12 year of alcoholism took care of that. Its been 2 years sense I cease drinking and I`m actually going to church. I do have a lot of knowledge in so many different areas but its really difficult to ether find a job or make my skills and Ideas work. I have try, forex trading with no luck. I`m trying to open and stock account for trading but I can`t seam to receive enough money to start. I have try online marketing and I really hate it. Specially affiliate marketing. I`ve been searching for a mentor but here where I live I could be one of the smarter people around, so I`m practically alone. I feel alone. I don`t know what to do with my life. I`m trying to learn software development but I`m every by my self and it gets really confusing sometimes. I do know ho to do 3D but it took me a year just to cash a $5000 job. So far 3D here is just not big enough. I`m actually blogging but I really need the car to actually have something to talk about. Resolved Question: How to Read Literature Like a Professor/Beowulf project help. PLEASE!?
So I was assigned to do a project on Beowulf and where literature elements fit in. To do this, we had to read How to Read Literature Like a Professor. I was assigned the three chapters: Christ Figures, Flight, and It's every About Sex. Now, I have some ideas for each chapter in which it was shown in Beowulf, but I do not want to analyze the text in the wrong way and make a fool of myself in front of the class. So, you would please look at my ideas for each one and tell me if I am on the right track. Christ Figure: Beowulf, sacrifices his life for the safety of others, he encounters the devil (in this case Grendel) Flight (still in development): Beowulf fights the dragon and they fall from a great height, meaning that it was interrupted flight and a "bad thing". Sex (the HARDEST one to do): This one is going to be so awkward to gift. When Beowulf fights Grendel's mom, he grabs a giant's sword laying on the ground because his does not work against her. Also, the description given during the battle sounds like a sexual act. Open Question: Web Development: How do you maintain common elements across multiple pages?
If you look at any professional website that has multiple pages, they every share common elements across the pages: The same logo and banner, menus, navigation toolbars, etc. Surely they don't go in and edit every single HTML file when they want to change something in there. So what's the correct way to manage this? I know you can just have one PHP that generates everything, but then your pages every look like "www.example.com/index.php?page=news" and I don't actually look that format very much. So how do people do it? (What is this even called, I've been trying to figure it out but I can't seem to figure out the right keywords to put into Google!)
